ORANA HISTORY

ORANA BRAHMANS-New beginnings with old values.

Orana Brahman Stud is the title of the original stud of the McLennan Family established in the 1960’s. Due to the dissolving of the family partnership in the early 90’s, the bulk of the Orana herd and its title were sold to A.A. Company, with only the elite cows retained to establish the MCL Brahman Stud.

In 2009 Craig McLennan and his wife Jodi had the opportunity to reclaim the stud name and its number, 567, and began building a high quality herd of both grey and red Brahmans. Bloodlines have been accessed from, of course, MCL, Tartrus, El-ja, Kariboe Valley, NCC, Kangarin, and specially selected imported lineages.

The same strict criterion used in the MCL herd for structural soundness, temperament, and beef-type Brahman cattle applies also to the ‘new’ Orana herd. Only high quality sires with proven consistency of the above standards are used- regardless of origin, pedigree or trends- and females must meet the requirements to be able to sustain a long and productive life on ‘Fiveways’. After over 20 years of quiet, Orana made it's successful ‘debut’ at The Big Country Brahman Sale, Charters Towers, in 2012, and looks forward to presenting high quality bulls at many future sales.
